RV Gates & Side Access

Plan access for your RV, boat or trailer with the opening, approach and surrounding wall in mind.

A more considered approach

Start with what matters to you.

The usable opening matters more than the name on a gate. Consider the widest part of the vehicle, mirrors, turning approach, grade and the space needed for each leaf to move.

01 / Consider the details

Look beyond a straight-line measurement

A vehicle approaching at an angle can need a different opening from one driving straight in. Bring photographs from the street and both sides of the proposed entrance.

  • Vehicle dimensions and approach angle
  • Clear usable opening and ground clearance
  • Single or double leaves and swing space
  • Post, hinge and latch configuration
02 / Consider the details

When the gate meets a block wall

Widening access can become a combined masonry and gate project. A useful proposal separates removal, structural support, fabrication and the finishing work.

  • What wall or old gate must be removed
  • Responsibility for support posts and footings
  • Matching block, stucco and caps
  • Any approval and utility-location requirements

Before you decide

A few useful answers.

What width should my RV gate be?

There is no single width that suits every vehicle and approach. Measure the actual vehicle and have the usable opening and turning geometry checked on site.

Can wood or composite slats be used?

They can be infill options within a suitable frame. Confirm the actual supplied product, spacing, finish and warranty terms.

Does widening an opening include the wall work?

Do not assume it does. Ask for a written scope identifying masonry removal, supports, disposal and finish matching as well as the gate.

thought into your boundary.

A new fence, a better entrance or a repair.
